Colorado Elk Scouting (VIDEO)

By Adam Parr –

I’ll just be honest here, I’ve been slacking on my elk scouting over the past few months with zero cameras hung and zero miles on the ground for the upcoming season. Isn’t it funny how life seems to get in the way sometimes?

This past weekend, my buddy Sam and I were able to get out to the spot I killed my 2016 Archery Bull to scout the surrounding areas and to better understand the terrain as well as the potential movements of elk in the immediate vicinity. We hung a few trail cameras on some trail openings that lead to the meadows we are planning on hunting for the opening weekend.

In addition to scouting, I was able to relive the memories of last year’s encounters and go to the exact locations of the incredible hunts I was able to experience during my first year of elk hunting. As I walked up to the tree I was sitting under when I killed my bull, I literally felt like I was “in the moment” again. It’s amazing how certain places can make you feel. Although it’s a little late in the year for scouting and hanging cameras, it’s never too late to get out and explore. I always learn something new every time I get to lace up the boots and put the miles on.

Although it’s a little late in the year for scouting and hanging cameras, it’s never too late to get out and explore. I always learn something new every time I get to lace up the boots and pack on the miles.

Enjoy!
